May 16, 1999, Chicago

18 members were present.

The meeting opened with a welcome from this year's co-chair, Robb Mackes, and the introduction of all those present.

Thanks was extended to all those who worked so hard on the SIG mission statement. No further discussion occurred, and the mission statement was approved as written.

Announcement of new officers:

New SIG Co-Chairs - Peter Jones and Emily Hull
New Program Chair - Bryan Vogh
All other positions are still serving their terms.

A suggestion for a future conference program was raised by Richard Klein. He is familiar with a travel newsletter called Out and About which discusses LGB travel health issues. He felt this would also make a good program topic. Dorrie Slutsker suggested broadening the topic to include ALL travel health issues. This was agreeable to the rest of the attendees. Richard Klein agreed to be part of a program task force for 2001 which will also include Bill Karnoscak, Jamie Lamkin and Tom Flemming. Possible MLA Sections to partner with for this program include International Cooperation, Public Health, Consumer and Patient Health.

Local arrangement issues were discussed with Richard Klein offering to trouble shoot any problems people might be having with the Chicago accommodations. Arrangements for Vancouver have been narrowed down to either the St. Regis or the Sylvia. Characteristics of each were discussed, and the attendees agreed to go with the St. Regis, mostly due to proximity to the conference.

Jerry Perry is taking the financial/fund raising for SIGS issue to Section Council. He, Peter and Emily will take the issue to the SIG leaders listserv as well.

Karen brought up the Human Rights Campaign web site listing of LGB professional organizations. She asked if the SIG wanted our organization listed on this. All attendees agreed to this. Karen agreed to notify Bryan and/or Chris to make this happen.

Certificates of appreciation were handed out for various SIG officers and task forces.
