Gay Day at Walt Disney World, 2001
The first weekend in June is "Gay Day at WDW." The Gay Day event in the Magic Kingdom Park, on Saturday June 2 is usually the highlight. But there are festivities starting as early as Thursday May 31. Gay Day gets bigger each year. So you might want to consider extending your stay after the convention. Another flexibility is that if you stay at the Dolphin for MLA and want to move to lesser-priced accommodations, the Holiday Inn Maingate West will honor the group rate until June 3. As mentioned, there is the free scheduled transportation to the WDW major theme parks only. Round-trip cab ride to Downtown Disney may run about $15.00 to $20.00. There will be Gay Day events mostly likely at Downtown Disney. Surely, there will be activities at the Parliament House which is downtown Orlando. Usually, one of the close-by hotels has a Gay Day hospitality center.
Check www.gayday.com a very comprehensive web site for information and developments on Gay Day. The 2001 schedule is not yet out; but this past one is available, and can give a sense of the activities.
