Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered
Sponsored on behalf of the Relevant Issues Section, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered Health Science Librarians SIG is happy to be able to present its program, Healthcare in the Transgender Community. Our invited speaker is Charles Moser, PhD, MD, Professor of Sexology, Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, and Private Practitioner, San Francisco. He is the author of Healthcare without Shame: a Handbook for the Sexually Diverse and their Caregivers (Greenery Press).
As medical students are not trained to deal with diverse populations, often medical care for transgendered and intersexed individuals can be an awkward experience for everyone involved. Libraries are crucial to the education of these caregivers, as they at the very core of information for beginning physicians and nurses. Building collections which promote sexual diversity will provide health care professionals with the tools needed to better handle all of their clientele.
