It's The Days Inn, Hotel Circle, San Diego; our own SIG hotel headquarters for May 2003. We are holding a block of 20 rooms from May 1 until May 7. our group rate is applicable 3 days before arrival and 3 days after arrival. Hotel address is 543 Hotel Circle South, San Diego, CA 92108. Further information is available at www.daysinnhc.com (includes links to area attractions). The Days Inn is offering us a rate of $85.00 per night plus 10.5 % tax, with no meals included. This rate is designated for a "Moderate" room, furnished with 2 queen beds. King bedded rooms may be requested, subject to availability.
Reservations can be guaranteed for the first night with a major credit card. A check can be substituted for the credit card guarantee, but allow at least two weeks. You need to call the hotel directly at 800-227-4743, and mention you are part of the Special Interest Group. (This 800 number is available M-F 7:30AM-9PM, Sat-Sun. 9A-6P, closed 12:30P-1:30P, all times PT). When you make your reservation, please make sure you get (and save) your Confirmation number. It is probably advisable to get the name of the person you spoke, along with date and time. Direct hotel telephone number, which also accesses reservations, is 619-297-8800. Cancellation policy requires notification by 4:00 p.m., hotel time, 24 hours prior to arrival to avoid any charges. It is advisable to make your plans earlier rather than later. (It is understandable, though, a good number of us may not know if they can come or not for a good while).
However, reservations will be closely and continually monitored. If we sense there is added interest, we would try to increase our block; and if attendance is not up to expectation, that has to be dealt with. With a credit card guarantee, you can always cancel or adjust, and re-book subject to availability. Written (preferred) and faxed confirmations are available upon request only (no email advisements). Cancellations should be done directly with the hotel instead of the Days Inn general reservations service, and please note reservations cannot be made through the Days Inn general reservation service to obtain the SIG group rate. After April 1, 2003, reservations will be taken on a "space and rate available basis" only. Please do not hesitate to contact me, should you be experiencing problems, "misunderstandings," and clarification needs etc. with reservations.
Features: Days Inn Hotel Circle offers 280 recently renovated rooms. The hotel has received Days Inn's highest rating of 5 Sunbursts, and also was recently awarded their Chairman's Award for high quality. Rooms feature mini-fridge, iron, ironing board, free HBO and Disney channel, plus other cable stations, pay-for-view TV; and Nintendo. There is an outdoor heated pool, and Jacuzzi. Self-service laundry is on premises. Free parking is available, and a very reasonably restaurant, serving all meals is on premises.
Transportation and Logistics: There is complimentary shuttle service from airport. It is advisable to contact the hotel before hand, regarding airport pick-up and return. The Town and Country, MLA's convention venue is within a very easy walk. The walk goes through a very short, but well-lit and pedestrian freeway underpass. A San Diego colleague made a test walk, and had no problems with the walk-as she found such quick and convenient. Both the Town and Country Hotel, on the north side of I-8 freeway, and the Days Inn, on the south side of I-8 freeway, advised me that guests walk between the hotels all the time. The Days Inn is also within walking distance of Fashion Valley Mall, (adjacent to the Town and Country Hotel) where there are a variety of shops and restaurants. And there are a number of restaurants on the same side of the I-8 freeway as the Days Inn. The Days Inn is also close but perhaps not quite within walking distance of Hillcrest, San Diego's LBGT center. There are also public transportation opportunities to close by attractions such as San Diego's historic Old Town, Balboa Park and famous San Diego Zoo, and Sea World. The Old Town Trolley stop and the San Diego public bus stop in front of the hotel. Sea World and the San Diego Zoo may be accessible via the hotel's free van transfer depending on availability.
Our SIG, undoubtedly, will be offering another well-planned MLA program, our usual business meeting, and a highly anticipated social, and just plain getting together. Should you have any questions, et al., please advise. I will update, amend, and repeat as need be.
