Historic Menger Hotel

The Historic Menger Hotel will be our SIG hotel headquarters for MLA, May, 2005. We are holding a block for 15 rooms from May 14-19, 2005. Located at 204 Alamo Plaza, San Antonio TX, the Menger Hotel is also within 3 blocks of the Convention Center and MLA Marriott River Center Hotel, in the very heart of San Antonio’s historic district. Also, the Menger Hotel is next door to the Alamo; adjacent to the Rivercenter Mall; and one block from the River Walk. Established in 1859, the Menger Hotel is a true historic property and in many ways embodies the essence of San Antonio.

Reservations

Our special group rate is $120.00 per night, either single or double occupancy, plus (at present) 16.75% tax, and includes no meals. Accommodation types consist of double, two doubles, and king bedded rooms. The hotel is being flexible with regard to earlier arrival and later departure dates.

Reservations may be guaranteed with a major credit card. Reservations are taken at 800-345-9285, and please mention you are part of the Special Interest Group. When making reservations, make sure you obtain and save your confirmation number. It is advisable to get the name of the person you spoke with, along with date and time. Direct hotel telephone number is 210-223-4361. Cancellation policy requires notification 72 hours before arrival to avoid one night’s room and tax. It is also recommended to make your reservations earlier rather than later. (Understandably, a good number of people may not know their plans for a while. Reservations tend to kick in more around MLA’s registration mailings in January). Check-in time is after 3:30 p.m.; check-out time is 12 noon.

Reservations will be closely and continually monitored. If we sense there is added interest, we will try to increase our room block. With a credit card guarantee, you can always cancel or adjust, and rebook subject to availability. After April 14, reservations will be taken on a “space available and prevailing rate basis” only. Please do not hesitate to contact me, should you be experiencing problems, “misunderstandings,” or clarification needs, etc. Please note: The preferred views include the Alamo, the Alamo Plaza, the subtropical patio, or pool.
