The Holiday Inn Express Midtown will be our SIG hotel headquarters for MLA, May 18-23, 2007. We are holding a block for 20 rooms from May 16-24,2007. Located at 1305 Walnut Street within 3 blocks of the MLA's convention hotel the Marriott -- where sessions will be, the Holiday Inn Express Midtown in the midst of Philadelphia's LBGT district. And the hotel is well located for public transportation and for the sights, good restaurants, shops et al. of Philadelphia. The hotel's website has most necessary information including hotel location, amenities and features, parking, airport transportation, etc.
Our special group rate is $139.00 per night, either single or double occupancy, plus (at present) 14.00% tax. Rate includes a deluxe continental breakfast.
Reservations may be guaranteed with a major credit card. Reservations are taken at 1-800-5-MIDTOWN, and please mention you are part of the Special Interest Group. When making reservations, make sure you obtain and save your confirmation number. It is advisable to get the name of the person you spoke with, along with date and time. Direct hotel telephone number is 215-735-9300; fax is 215-732-2682. Cancellation policy requires notification by 6:00 p.m. day of arrival to avoid one night’s room, plus tax.
It is also recommended to make your reservations earlier rather than later, especially if you will be arriving and departing at the pre and post "periphery times." Mid to late May is very pronounced with college graduations in Philadelphia. For instance, most of the hotels are sold out May 11-14 for University of Pennsylvania's graduation; and in the hotel neighborhood is Thomas Jefferson Medical School who will be having theirs around this time.
Check-in time is 3:00 p.m.; check-out time is 1:00 p.m.
Reservations will be closely and continually monitored. If we sense there is added interest, we will try to increase our room block. With a credit card guarantee, you can always cancel or adjust, and rebook subject to availability. After April 16, reservations will be taken on a “space available and prevailing rate basis” only.
Transportation and Parking: Transportation is
available to the hotel form the airport by taxi and
shuttle. To and from the airport, taxi costs runs
approximately $25.00 each way; and local airport
shuttle service, Lady Liberty runs $8.00 one way and
$16.00 round-trip, at this writing. (There may be
other shuttle services, but the hotel mentioned Lady
Liberty). Parking is $21.00 per night, at this
writing.
