Good afternoon, everyone!
Getting ready for MLA, I hope? Well, don't forget about the SIG business meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, at 11:30 a.m. in the Atlanta Room. We've prepared a lively agenda for you, and my proxy has just been prepped on all the discussion points.
One
of the discussion points concerns options for our SIG hotel at next
year's meeting in Hawaii that have been lovingly prepared by our
wonderful Richard Klein. Please take a look at these and be
prepared to discuss them at the business meeting.
Richard
proposes reserving a block of 20 rooms from May 15-20 at one of three
Aqua Palms Hotels, located very close to each other and very convenient
to both the convention center and the conference hotel.
(Dates and number of rooms are adjustable.) All are boutique hotels, moderately priced.
Aqua Palms & Spa / 1850 Ala Moana Blvd / Waikiki Beach / 808.947.7256 / http://www.aquaresorts.com/aqua-palms/
- $149 per night (single or double, plus taxes)
- Includes complimentary continental breakfast, free local/toll calls,
complimentary WiFi Internet, pool with sundeck, barbeque grill, and
fitness center; microwave, fridge, and coffeemaker in room; spa
services available but not included
- 262 rooms; 12 floors; 3 elevators
- Across from Hilton Hawaiian Village (conference hotel) and “short
stroll” to Hawaii Convention Center (where MLA will be); 1 block to the
beach
The Equus / 1696 Ala Moana Blvd / Waikiki Beach / 808.949.0061 / http://www.aquaresorts.com/aqua-equus/
- $149 per night (single or double, plus taxes)
- Includes complimentary continental breakfast, free local/toll calls,
complimentary WiFi Internet, pool, and barbeque grill; microwave,
fridge, and coffeemaker in room
- Very new hotel; 68 rooms; 10 floors; 1 elevator
- 2 blocks from the Hawaii Convention Center and “near” the Hilton Hawaiian Village; 1 block to the beach
Aqua Waikiki Marina / 1700 Ala Moana Blvd / Waikiki Beach /
808.942.7722 / http://www.aquaresorts.com/aqua-marina/
- $129 per night (single or double, plus taxes)
- Includes free Internet access, pool, and lighted tennis court; no breakfast
- 103 rooms; 40 floors; 2 elevators
- Adjacent to The Equus
For a 3rd adult in the room at any of the options, the cost would be an additional $25 (+ tax) per night.
Richard
recommends either the Aqua Palms or the Equus since they both include a
breakfast (which has been a steady feature of our accommodations in
recent years), but the Marina is a less expensive option.
Nothing
definite has been set up yet for any hotel as yet since a signed
contract is required to officially hold anything, but Richard has made
the hotels aware that we are interested and that definite plans can be
made by the end of May.
Richard also will ensure that there is
availability (or a block of rooms) before and after the meeting (at
least 2 days) is included in the contract, but he will need guidance on
a minimum number of extra days as well as a good ratio of 1-bed vs.
2-bed rooms.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
