HERE IS AN EXCERPT FROM THE GUIDE....

BARS
Buddies
3715 Main - (816) 561-2600
Nice ad with a man with a cowboy hat and sunglasses looking pensive (or is that supposed to be a cruisy look? I can't tell...). They're definitely straddling the line between cutting humor and bad taste. Thursday is "chicken night" (please let that mean there's a kitchen) and Friday is "nut night (how many nuts can you handle?)". Monday is "drink & drown" night from 8pm-midnight. Wednesday there is free pool from 8pm-midnight and a "5:30 movie" (Porn or not porn? The eternal question....). Dart tour nament on Saturday afternoon at 3pm ($50 prize).

Cabaret
5024 Main - (816) 753-6504
They take out big ads that scream "Kansas City's SHOWPLACE!" Showplace apparently refers to the adult film stars (male) who appear on weekend nights (expect near-naked and naked dancing, do NOT expect dramatic monologues). Sunday Soda and Beer Bust from 4-8pm

Coliseum
3954 Central - (816) 753-0112
Billed as Kansas City's Premiere Dance Club. However, it is promptly followed by, "Thursdays are reserved for our gay and lesbian customers." Is anyone else bothered by that? And guess what? Karaoke there is every Thursday (like straight people can't get drunk and sing).

Jamie's
528 Walnut - (816) 471-2080
Seems like there might be a food thing happening here. If not, I'm really frightened by the notion of the "Bloody Mary and Biscuits & Gravy" special which happens on Sundays from 11am to 2pm. Wednesday is the big night here by looking at the advertiseme nt. $1 wells, free darts and pool (from 6-9), and the "beer bash-o-rama" from 7-10pm. Fridays & Saturdays open until 3am.

Missie B's
805 W. 39th St. - (816) 561-0625
[Open Monday thru Saturday 11am to 3am] Billed as a piano and cocktail lounge, Missie B's has a drag show on Mondays at midnight and karaoke ("...and honey I miss you...") every Tuesday and Thursday.

Sidekick's Saloon
3707 Main - (816) 931-1430
A Country/Western establishment which boasts a "Boots or Suits" happy hour from 2-7 daily. Dance lessons are Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 8pm.

The Edge
323 W. 8th St. - (816) 221-8900
[most nights open until 3am - not sure of exact times] Looks like a huge danceteria which is but a block or two from the Radisson. No cover on Sunday nights. Otherwise I figure a cover of about $3-$5.

The DB (Dixie Belle) -- NOTE: This is a leather bar.
1922 Main
I've found full page ads for this place in three different publications, but NONE had any information (not even the phone number!). Each ad was for a different benefit, so they have that much going for them.

The Other Side
3611 Broadway - (816) 931-0501
Not much is said about clientele, but there is a pool tournament every Monday & Tuesday. There is also a shuffle board tournament (!) every Wednesday. Melrose Place on Monday nights (beware of what kind of crowd that might attract).

Tools
518 E. 31st St. - (816) 753-9227
[6am to 1:30am]
The heading on the advertisement reads "The Stars of Female Illusions in Kansas City". Curious name. The home of performers May Lox and Sofonda Peters. Free darts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5-7. Dart tournament every Saturday at 2pm.

Tootsie's -- NOTE: CLOSED
3601 Broadway - (816) 756-3585
This place sounds way too fun (watch I'll be totally wrong). Tuesday nights are South of the Border nights with Maggie and Missy, with Mexican food and marquerita specials. Thursday nights join Pam and the chug-a-lug bunch (but don't join them on Friday morning). Saturdays have taco specials (thank goodness Pam and the chug-a-lug bunch aren't around on Saturdays...what a mess!). It's dining, it's dancing.

Mari's
1809 Grand - (816) 283-0511
Their advertisement boasts, "We have the music you've been waiting for: Contemporary, Jazz, Blues, R&B, Wave, Quiet Storm and Swing." Downstairs from the fabulous restaurant where the SIG will do it's major dinefest. "Happy hour" every day until 7:30.

The Vineyard
1108 Grand - (816) 421-1082
Not a clear description of what the bar is like, but on Saturdays there is a show with Erika George (whose picture looks suspiciously like Mackenzie Phillips). Every Saturday is a beer bash from 3pm to 7pm and a dart tournament at 4:30 p.m. with a $50 pr ize. Tuesday nights are country night. Wear boots and a hat and get "large draws" for $1. Mondays have Long Islands for $1 (the gimmick is "get L.I.T. for a buck).

Vortex
1818-1822 Main
[Mon thru Sat 11am - 1:30am ; Sunday 11am - midnight]
Looks like another danceteria. Friday & Saturdays are the "dance party" with high-energy music supplied by DJ Tabitha. No cover. Sunday is live jazz and blues from 4-9 p.m. 2-6pm is the beer bust (what is it with the phrase "beer bust"?) Wednesday ni ght is karaoke from 6-9 p.m.

Whistle Stop -- NOTE: This is a lesbian dance bar now (though men are welcome)
1321 Grand - (816) 221-8008
A full page ad which said almost nothing. It must be a sports bar of some sort. Apparently they have 6 new televisions for watching Monday night football (as far as I'm concerned, unless those televisions are showing a "Facts of Life" marathon, they're pretty much worthless). Wednesday beer bust ($5 5 to midnight....whatever that means). [In the photo section there was a picture of some man who apparently is a bartender there whose name was Turtle...use that information for whatever you wish.] There a re also a couple of pool tables and darts.
