HOUSING UPDATE FOR VANCOUVER
From Peter....
As of March 29, we are holding 19 out of the 22 rooms set aside for us at the Hotel St. Regis in Vancouver. So, there is still some availability. Remember, the access word is "Special Interest Group."
Please join us. The rates are about half those of the conference hotels, and it is within walking distance of the conference. Also, there's a Starbucks very nearby! Come meet and mingle with your colleagues in the SIG!

SIG PROGRAM UPDATE FOR MLA 2001, ORLANDO
Dr. Patricia Walker, expert in travel medicine, has been contacted as a possible speaker. She has extensive background in overseas medical service, particularly in southeast Asia. She has had experience working with refugees. I can make available her very extensive curriculum vitae. One of my bosses heard her speak at the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association Annual Meeting last year in Minneapolis; and was favorably impressed. As of today, Dr. Walker is still keeping the dates open for May 2001, Orlando. I have contacted the Nursing Section and requested consideration about sharing the program. There seems to be possible interest, pending discussion with the nursing section at MLA. I also have placed calls with representatives of Public Health Section to see if there might be interest. I will make it my business to attend the program planner meetings Sat. at 4 p.m. and Wednesday at 9 a.m. As I am arriving in Vancouver early Sat. afternoon, I might want to have a possible substitute if I am running late--but I expect to be at the meeting. My understanding is these planning meetings are where the "marketing and bargaining" take place. Sort of like an exotic bazaar. If anyone has any ideas, strategies, etc. that would be beneficial, please let me know.

A WORD FROM BRYAN REGARDING MLA 2000 PROGRAM
I am writing to apologize for not having a program this year at MLA. We became VERY busy in our office and subscribing to the electronic mail list for the program chairs was set aside and not picked up until Nov. and by then it was to late. I did try at that point to send the forms in and spoke to some of you about it as well. I was working from a fully staffed office of experienced people when I volunteered; I am now the most senior person in the office. I apologize and hope that I can work in other ways to help the SIG.

Peter and EmilyYOUR "SIG GUIDE TO THE CONFERENCE" FOR VANCOUVER
As promised, here is a run-down of what your SIG colleagues are doing at the conference:
SUNDAY, MAY 7:
No real SIG action this day. Good day to take a cruise or go shopping? (Kidding, of course!)
MONDAY, MAY 8:
Many charming SIG members are giving poster sessions at the conference, scheduled for 2:00 p.m to 4:00 p.m. I know from experience, there is nothing quite like standing awkwardly in front of a poster and trying to inspire interest in it, so COME OUT to support your friends and colleagues. Either that, or walk by and make funny faces at them! Here's who you'll find among the large display tables, and remember, any current or potential SIG member who manages to visit all the following posters AND gets signatures from all the presenters, will win a fabulous prize!

MEMBER NEWS
*Jeff's new editorship!
Jeff Huber has been asked to be the founding Editor-in-Chief of a new journal Haworth Press is launching -- Journal of Gay & Lesbian Information Resources. The contract has just been signed. The Journal is scheduled to appear Spring 2001.
*Jamie has a new job!
Jamie Lamkin has accepted a medical librarian position at a medical based Internet startup. The website hasn't currently (3/1/200) been launched, but should shortly. Check it out at www.onebody.com/ The job will include research support for the Clinical and News content sections of the site. There will be a pinch of collection development, a dash of meta-tagging and a cup of EBM all rolled into one person. Although the job will be quite exciting, there is a bit of sad news attached. She will not be joining us in Vancouver. She will, however, be joining her partner for an exploration to South Africa in July! So, all travels won't be lost. To contact her, use the personal email address at jlamkin@pacbell.net.
*Pat has been published!
A coming out story of Pat Anderson's is being published April 7th in the Deb Kolodny anthology, Blessed Bi Faith from Crossing Press. Good luck picking her out, however, it's under a pseudonym! (There will not be prizes for guessing correctly, either, sorry!)
*This is Sally's last newsletter!
And yes, Sally has a new job! For anyone who might not know, I am now happily ensconced in my new position as a hospital librarian in Arizona.
It has truly been a pleasure serving the SIG as Newsletter Editor. Thank you for your attention!
